"Is home real" is a work of traditional Ukrainian Vybyika pattern painted with oil color on a raw 6 by 6 feet canvas fabric. After finishing, the tapestry was shot through with a 9 milimiter gun aroung 30 times, to display the act of violence against home. The work engages with the trauma of war and displacement which is caused by the ongoing war against Ukranian people and culture. Through the use of mixed media and oil painting, I grapple with the devastation wreaked upon my former home, evoking feelings of loss and grief. My work addresses the complex emotions of people struggling to maintain hope and identity in the face of adversity.
